  • The big picture is that we're approximating nasty functions with nice ones (polynomials):

  • Local linear approximation to a function (using the tangent line)
  • Local linear approximation to the sine function (using the tangent line) at pi/2
  • Cubic approximation to the sine function at pi/2
  • 6^th degree polynomial approximation to the sine function at pi/2
