I'll not have an office hour after class on Monday -- sorry.
Major/Minor Lunch today continues until 1:30pm, in ST
343. If you're hungry after class, go on up!
Section 8.2 problems returned: Graded #4 and 66
Would those who presented test problem solutions in class please
return their tests to me, so that I might scan the solutions and make
them available to others? Thanks! (I've gotten two so far!)
Section 9.4: Taylor Polynomials
The big picture: we're approximating nasty functions with nice ones (polynomials):
Taylor Polynomials Lab (p. 213 of Stewart's Calculus) -- questions
about strategy? Reminder: this is your homework for this unit!
Let's talk error now. Remember error? As we discussed for the case
of Simpson's rule, it's nice to give an estimate -- but even nicer when
you can provide an error estimate, also....
Examples:
#23, p. 500 (Maclaurin series polynomial)
#35, p. 500 (Let's do sin(x) as well (Maclaurin series polynomial))
#46, p. 501
