Today:
- Announcements:
- You have an exam Friday; your 6.8 homework is due tomorrow.
- Your 6.6 section homework is returned. Graded
- The Newton's Law of Cooling lab is graded. This didn't go well.
- Half of you didn't submit it.
- I got one or two questions, but basically it looks like you just gave up.
- Newton's Law of
Cooling (Lab)
-
- This is why we do calculus. You can shake your head and say "I
just don't get it; then throw in the towel" But you're throwing away a
valuable tool. Better to invest the time and learn the tool. This is
calculus. Calculus is not the memorization of a set of facts, only to
be forgotten moments later. That would be a useless exercise, for me
and for you. I don't see why we should waste our time. Let's learn
something -- and do something -- that is actually important.
- Your quiz opportunity tomorrow will be over section 7.7. Please
read ahead! You also have an assignment in 7.2, due next Monday.
- Your test Thursday will cover chapter 6 and 7.1.
- Today we wrap up Section 7.1 with a few more examples:
- #10, p. 492
- #26
- #40
- #51
- Section 7.2: Trigonometric Integrals
- We'll look at a few examples which illustrate the importance of
trigonometric identities
- #65, p. 501; this one prepares us for the two that follow.
- #1
- #6
- Now let's look at some of the useful identities that we'll want to
use from time to time. The good news is that only three are really
essential (and you can get two of them using texpand on your
calculator). You can derive the rest from these three:
- The trig form of the Pythagorean Theorem
- Sine of a sum
- Cosine of a sum
- Additional examples:
- #7, p. 500
- #27
- #42
- #56
