- Today we welcome Jen Quammen (NKU alum, '04), or, as her tag at
the end of the email says,
Jennifer Quammen, DVM, MPH
www.highperfliving.com
Founder and Coach, Veterinarian Coaching
Relief Veterinarian, several states
President, Power of Ten Co-Facilitator, Kentucky VMA
Chair, AVMA Council on Veterinary Service
-
Jen's is the third of three talks by alums who have taken interesting,
non-traditional, maybe even innovative approaches to their careers
following their undergraduate education.
Jen is the first of our guests to continue on to graduate school (and
then on to a professional career as a veterinarian). But she has gone
beyond that, and will no doubt share several additional arms in her
octopus-like life!
Jen is an "applied-type", the third of four traditional kinds of
students we tend to see: students are often classified into pure
and applied mathematics, statistics, and math
education.
- Just to refresh your memories: Two weeks ago, Kari Stewart shared
her experiences finding life in mathematics education even after she
discovered that she didn't care for teaching as traditionally performed
in our schools.
Then last week, Greg Lemmon shared his experiences as the entire
statistical arm of a small but mighty business, Eureka! Ranch. I will
pass around a book that Greg sent me, highlighting the work of Eureka!
Ranch. I will mention that Greg is credited in the acknowledgements as
being a little smarter than the author!:)
By the way, like Greg, Jen worked in our mathematical and statistical
consulting center -- one of our very first student
consultants. (Remember that this is an opportunity which is available
to you!).
- Your short essays about Greg's visit are due today. You can email
me those (but remember that I'd like your notes, too).
- Upcoming events:

talks, or the big poster session.
- On-campus or off-campus talks (coming soon! One or two in April)
- Next week, we'll have a visit from two current NKU students:
Parker Kain and Allison Zembrodt (graduating this semester). They will
