Announcements
- Haven't graded your quiz yet, but we'll be talking about some of the themes today.
- Please continue your review of integration (Vol 2, 1.1: Approximating Areas -- Vol 2, 1.3: The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus). Seems from our work yesterday that there's a bit of rust that needs to be knocked off.
- We will be moving on to Vol 2, Sec 3.1: Integration by Parts for Monday.
Today's lab: Solving equations, tips and tricks.
- There are four exercises today. Some of our previous work will be emphasized, including defining functions and plotting functions and plotting lists of data, as well as the Manipulate command.
- There are some new tools that are useful, important, and sometimes mysterious (but worth understanding). Make sure to add comments to the labs whenever you think it necessary, and to save them somewhere where you can find them again. Remember that you can add in-line comments within (* *).
- One thing that I hope that we get to is a modeling exercise where I illustrate how calculus can be used to find the best model in a class of models.
- As usual, I'll be walking you through, but there are some hidden cells which you can activate if you get bogged down: Cell -> Cell Properties -> Open.

- Try out the integration animation which is mentioned in the text. I like Desmos, and certainly hope that you'll find it useful.
- Here's a L'Hopital worksheet for you to try (a bit of "review" of the inverse trig functions, too).
- Mathematica on-line is an option, if you are at a computer without Mathematica installed. I've tried it and it worked pretty well!
