You might change the functions, and see how well the Discrete approximation works. I've done a few simple polynomial examples, but you might try some more interesting functions, and see how well the discrete approximations work.
Just like we use a tangent line in the univariate case, with slope given by the derivative evaluated at the point of interest, we will use a tangent plane in the bivariate case, with slopes given by partial derivatives.
