Presenter: Dr. Andrew Long

OVERVIEW and OBJECTIVES

In the following we present an example of traditional spatial modelling, following one of our readings.

OBJECTIVES: Those who successfully complete the module should

  • know how to generate or simulate a poisson spatial process
  • understand the rudiments of discretizing data into quadrats
  • know several definitions of contiguity
  • understand the difference between "true" and "apparent" contagion
  • know what "equifinality" means
  • know the definitions of, and appreciate the value of the dispersion, the d-statistic, and Moran's I in analyzing the quadrat data
