Variogram Analysis

The variogram, a spatial decomposition of the variance, is defined as the matrix function

Variogram analysis is

• a necessary precursor to the kriging and cokriging process;
• a multivariate spatial extension of principal components analysis (PCA); and
• a method by which we attempt to establish the trustworthiness of neighbors-to-neighbors, and variables-to-variables.
