Document Window
- Document Window
- displays text, tables, graphics, and other
items as typed or inserted into document

Displaying
full menu

- Click menu name on
menu bar and wait a few seconds
- Click menu name and
click arrows at bottom of short menu
- Click menu name
then point to arrows at bottom of short menu
- Double-click

Toolbars
- Toolbars
- buttons, boxes, and menus allow
quickly perform tasks
- Standard and
Formatting Toolbar - built-in toolbars are
preset to display docked on same row immediately below
menu bar
Note: both of these
toolbars cannot fit entirely on single row, only more
frequently used buttons display
- docked toolbar-
is one that is attached to edge of Word window
- move handle
- vertical bar at left edge of
toolbar can be double-clicked to display entire toolbar
- More buttons
- at right edge of toolbar can be
clicked to display More Buttons List
that contains toolbars hidden
buttons
- stacked toolbars
- additional toolbars can be stacked below the Formatting
and Standard toolbar

2 ways to display Language bar
- click Language Indicator button in taskbar
tray status area, click Show the Language bar on menu

Checking
Spelling Automatically as You Type
- Enable spell
check as you type feature:
- Right-click the
Spelling and Grammar Status icon on the status bar
- click the Options
on the shortcut menu
- be sure Check
spelling as you type is selected and Hide spelling errors
in this document does not have a check mark
Formatting Paragraphs and Characters
- Paragraph
formatting - changing appearance of paragraph
(must select first)
- select by
dragging through text
- select by selecting
1st character, then press SHIFT key
and click at end of the desired location
- Character
formatting - changing the way characters
appear (must be selected first)
- Bold,
Underline and Italics
- toggle key (key is recessed when
selected) to undo any of these attributes select text and
press key again
Inserting Clip Art
- graphics - files containing graphical images,
available from a variety of sources
- Clip Organizer - collection of clips, clip
art, photographs, sounds, and video clips

Word
Help System
- Ask a Question box - on right side of menu
bar lets you type free-form questions, or terms, such as copy,
save, or format. Word responds by displaying a list
of topics related to the word or phrase entered.
- Help on
Item - use the Ask a Question box to search for Help on any topic
concerning Word
- As you enter questions and terms in the Ask a
Question box, Word adds them to the Ask a Question list. If you
click the Ask a Question box arrow, a list of previously asked
questions and terms will display
