In honor of the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Visual Arts Program partnered with NKU's Office of Community Connections to create MLK Day activity packets for local school kids. The packets use art to help kids learn about Civil Rights heroes. Creative activities within ask kids to reflect on ways in which they can enact positive change in the world. Packets include hand-drawn portraits, prompts for self-reflection, and an invitation to respond to Dr. King's call to make the world a better place. Over 700 students received packets for at-home and classroom use. They contained an activity zine, MLK Jr. Day of Service sticker, and NKU Visual Arts Pennant.

Prof. Joe Cobbs (Professor, Sports Business & Event Management) said the zine was a great activity for his family to do together on MLK Day, celebrating Dr. King's legacy. He also stated, "It's such a vital topic for kids to understand and your efforts helped us converse as a family about its importance." Project coordinated and designed by faculty Julie Mader-Meersman, Randel Plowman, and Julia Sebastian, with production assistance from Visual Communication Design students Madeline Kunkel and Sydney Bryan. The activity zine was printed in two colors on SOTA's new Risograph printer using soy-based inks. The pennants were screen printed by the project team.
