FAQ

Three to four days after you pay your Enrollment Confirmation Fee of $75, you will receive an orientation invitation from our office. This email will be sent to the address you listed on your NKU admissions application. You'll also receive a new checklist item in your application status page prompting you to choose an orientation date. Upon completing your online registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. There are a limited number of spots for each program, so the sooner you register, the more flexibility you'll have. The registration portal accessed through your email invitation or application status page will list all dates that still have availability.

The fee for Orientation is $100 per student. There is no additional fee for guests.

The Orientation fee of $100 (covers both Orientation AND Victorfest) includes all program materials and facilitation. In addition, this fee helps to assist with the costs associated with programming such as New Student Convocation and Freshfusion.

Orientation and Victorfest are REQUIRED for ALL incoming first time freshmen. If you have a scheduling concern, please contact the Office of Admissions as soon as possible. If a student cannot attend for some reason, a written request by the student attending NKU will need to be sent by email to nkuadmissions@nku.edu in order for your situation to be considered. You can also call (859) 572-5220 for more information. Your situation will be reviewed and you will receive information about your next steps from a staff member in the Office of Admissions.

Keep in mind that if you are unable to attend orientation and fail to contact the Office of Admissions with your situation, you will not be able to register for classes until mid-August and you are still required to pay the orientation fee.

If you or your guest(s) have a disability or circumstances that require special accommodations during Orientation, please contact the Office of Admissions by email at nkuadmissions@nku.edu or by phone at (859) 572-5220 or include information regarding your accomodation during the time of online registration.

Course registration will occur outside of orientation. Once a student registers for orientation, they will receive an email from their academic advisor inviting them to schedule an advising appointment.

Parents and family members are encouraged to attend Orientation and there is no extra fee to bring guests. Students should bring family members to help develop a support network early in their college career. Parents/Guests will have a separate, yet concurrent program designed specifically for parents and guardians of new students. This program consists of special presentations designed to help family members assist with their student's transition to college and allows them to become familiar with the University and its many resources.

The program will also include opportunities to meet with faculty, administrators, and current students to discuss issues such as academic performance, campus safety, money management, student life, available support services, roommate and housing issues, homesickness, and expected student behavior. We encourage questions and give you ample time to interact with these important offices throughout the day.

As for Victorfest, which occurs the weekend before fall classes begin, the events that occur during this time are only for students. It is here where students will meet more incoming freshmen, participate in events meant for students, and learn even more about NKU and how to get involved!

Only students who will be living on campus during the academic year will stay overnight during Victorfest. Students who plan to commute to campus will simply return home at the end of each day and check back in the following morning.

As orientation takes place in the summer months, consider bringing a waterbottle to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

All of these offices will all be represented at Orientation. Their offices will be open regular hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., M-F) during the programs for you to visit or direct questions.

Placement testing will be included in the orientation schedule. Any additional information about placement testing will be sent to the email the student used to apply to NKU.
