  • There's some confusion about 'follow-up' on the labs. I will not collect those, in general, but I do expect that you might try to wrap them up. You're welcome to ask questions about them. Remember, I'll be collecting your notebooks with each exam.

• First 30 minutes: answering your questions. Questions from sections 5.3 (or earlier)
  • The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, Part I (it's really that easy!)
  • anti-derivatives
  • Definition of the Riemann sum (a function of three variables! See p. 262).
  • Definition of the definite integral.
  • Properties of the definite integral.
  • Summation formulas
  • Limits of summations (power sums)
  • Putting these formulas into your calculator.

• Next 25 minutes:

  You will undertake the following activity, concerning diagnoses of gonnorhoea among homosexual men (from Macdonald, (2004). Recent trends in diagnoses of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in England and Wales among men who have sex with men:

• For the final 20 minutes, we'll switch to a class discussion of the proposed solution(s).
