Although I have one more little sidenote to show you, to illustrate why it works: fitting a single parameter model to a single data point. I borrowed the strategy from the Mathematica demo file for Newton's Method. I don't think that we'll look at this today, however, because I'm eager to get to cadavers...:)

As we think about modeling the onset of rigor mortis, we might start with the Bestiary of functions, from Ben Bolker's Ecological Models and Data in R. Do we hear any songs that sound like our data? If not, we may have to go off-road, to mix metaphors....
