Day 7 in Mat229

• I haven't graded your quizzes yet.
• One student emailed me a question: are there worked examples in the Text? Here's what I replied, in case others have the same question:

  The Example problems in the text have worked out solutions, e.g. Example 3.65 which was one of your quiz problems today. There's a "Show/Hide Solutions" with each one.

  If you try a homework problem and struggle with it, then you're welcome to ask about it in class (always good to give me a heads up if you can, so I'm ready for it -- but not required!), visit me during office hours, or just email a question or request a zoom.

Our lab will address derivatives and linear approximation (tangent lines). In particular, we'll

1. Generate the graph we made yesterday, by hand, using Mathematica
2. Then we'll animate it, so that we can see the tangent lines vary as we vary the value of the point \((a,\ln(a))\).
3. We'll plot the function \(x^x\) and its derivative (which we didn't do yesterday).
4. We'll hit two modeling exercises from section 3.9.

• Mathematica on-line is an option, if you are at a computer without Mathematica installed. I've tried it and it worked pretty well!
