GIS is a tool, which we might organize as shown in slide (1). At the center is the Spatial Data, for without it we would not need a GIS! On top of the data sit the hardware and software along with the personnel; together these three manage the data, directing certain activities such as those floating below the data in slide (1). We shall now examine these activities in more detail.
