Praxis II for Certification

Test requirements vary by the state(s) in which you plan to teach.

Kentucky:

• The full requirements for initial certification in Kentucky can be found by visiting: http://www.epsb.ky.gov.
• View Praxis exams for Kentucky and register by visiting: https://www.ets.org/praxis/site/test-takers/plan-your-test.html.
• You must send scores to both NKU and EPSB
  • NKU Code: 1574
  • EPSB Code: 7283
• Students with multiple content areas (i.e. Middle Grades English and Math) must pass tests for all areas.

Ohio, Indiana, and other States:

• Most states, including Ohio and Indiana, have a process for accepting out-of-state licensure. Connect with your academic advisor for assistance if you plan to become licensed in another state(s) in addition to or instead of Kentucky.
• For both Kentucky and Ohio certification:
  • We encourage you to take the PRAXIS II tests for Kentucky, apply and receive your KY certificate and then apply for the reciprocal license in Ohio. In this case, Ohio will not require you to take the Pearson OAE tests with the exception of the OAE 190-Foundations of Reading test for IECE, Elementary, Middle Grades and Special Education which Ohio requires for these certification areas. 
• Refer to the website for the Ohio Department of Education for information on testing and other requirements for initial teacher licensure.
• Refer to ETS.org and the website for the Indiana Department of Education for information on testing and other requirements for initial teacher certification.
• For all other states in which you plan to become licensed, visit the website for that state's Department of Education for requirements.

When to Take the Test

COE faculty will provide more guidance in your classes. Many students take their content tests after completing the majority of their content courses and teaching methods course for that content area. Many students take their Principles of Learning & Teaching (PLT) test after completing their pedagogy courses, often during Clinical Experience.
