GEARUP aims to enhance the information literacy skills of all NKU students. Information literacy education focuses on developing your ability to:
1: Apply for the Steely Library Research Award
This award is available to any NKU undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student who participates in Celebration and provides a narrative on their research process that showcases their use of library resources and services as well as their growth as a researcher. Each year, a committee chooses up to two winners, who will each receive a $500 cash prize.
Faculty have revised 30+ courses to directly expose students to information literacy instruction. Courses include UNV 101, CMST 101 in general education, research courses within student majors, and several at the graduate level.
3: Engage your student organization with GEARUP
Information literacy skills are applicable inside and outside the classroom. GEAR librarians have worked with groups on campus to support scholarship research, voting, and navigating COVID information. Connect with us to learn more.
4: Use library resources
Steely Library provides access to resources, spaces, and services in support of GEAR learning. For example, library guides will help you select a relevant research tool. Spaces like Stego Studio offer opportunities to create and collaborate on information projects, and Steely librarians are a wealth of knowledge for our students when it comes to any information/research need. Schedule an appointment with a librarian to discuss your next research project.
