Why do NKU students need the STAR program?

Key Findings in 2021 First Year Experience Taskforce Report:

  1. Students did not have sufficient opportunity to study with full-time, tenure-track faculty in their introductory courses
  2. Students who participated in focus groups believed that "general education would be seen as more valuable if the courses included more real-world application, a connection to educational and career goals and faculty had an understanding of the needs of first-year students”
  3. Faculty were not provided with sufficient professional develop mentor support
