About Us

Northern Kentucky University was founded in 1968 and is now a regional comprehensive university enrolling 15,000 students. Located in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, its mission is to deliver innovative, student-centered education and engage in impactful scholarly and creative endeavors, all of which empower its graduates to have fulfilling careers and meaningful lives, while contributing to the economic, civic, and social vitality of the region.

The Northern Kentucky University College of Informatics brings communication and media together with computing and technology: we are all about seeking human meaning in a world of data.   NKU built the college in 2005 on the radical premise that breaking a few silos would yield growth and innovation. The college encompasses journalism, cybersecurity, public relations, business analytics, electronic media, artificial
intelligence, and much more.

We are the School of Media and Communication, the School of Computing and Analytics, and the Informatics Student Success and Advising Center (iSSAC).  We offer thirteen bachelor’s degrees, four master’s degrees, and one of the world’s first interdisciplinary minors in Applied AI. Our outreach programs have a broad reach, from middle school students to retirees. Our student capstone projects engage companies such as Fidelity Investments, 84.51º, and GE Aerospace. We run hackathons, film festivals, and symposia. Our students travel the world to make documentaries. We are an NSA Center of Academic Excellence Cyber Defense Education. We are housed in one of the Tri-State’s most distinctive high-tech buildings, Griffin Hall.
